Fire Resistant Hydraulic Oils FAQ’s

Fire Resistant Hydraulic Oils FAQ’s

  1. What does flame propagation mean?

This is the “combustible wave” that moves from the initial point of ignition towards the source of the combustible mixture. The combustible mixture can be any combustible fluid for example petrol, mineral oil, and organic solvents.

  1. Which class of fire-resistant hydraulic oil provides the longest system lifetime?

HFDu fluids provide the longest system lifetime and is compatible with the system components used on mineral oil hydraulic power packs. There is no need to change pumps, pipes etc. This fluid provides the most stable platform for a hydraulic system leading to minimal wear on components and is high safety value providing minimal risk.

  1. Why do HFC fluids require stringent maintenance protocols?

The water component of the HFC fluid evaporates as temperature increases and condensates when a system cools down. This causes changes in the heat carrying capacity of the fluid as well as the viscosity of the fluid. Both of these effects put strain on the hydraulic system and can cause wear and component failure if not monitored correctly. To this end, water quality is very important.

  1. Why are HFDu fluids biodegradable?

The base components of the fluid are sourced from renewable resources which means that the fluid is non-toxic and biodegradable

  1. What does Factory Mutual approval mean?

Factory Mutual (FM) approval is an internationally recognized certification which approves products through stringent tests to have high loss prevention standards.

Metalworking Fluid & Hidden Costs

The metalworking fluid (coolant) cost should account for 1% of the total cost of the machining process (the other costs when producing parts on a machine tool include the machine cost, material cost, tooling costs, labour costs, energy costs and
